Membership with Academic Distinction

PURPOSE OF THE GIS MEMBERSHIP WITH DISTINCTION:

The purpose of the GIS Membership with Academic Distinction designation is to recognize current members who have achieved academic excellence in either risk management and insurance, or actuarial science studies.

Academic Distinction is NOT a requirement to become a member. This distinction is merely a way to recognize those who have excelled academically while completing RMI or AS courses.

CRITERIA FOR MEMBERSHIP WITH ACADEMIC DISTINCTION IN GIS:

To obtain Membership with Academic Distinction in Gamma Iota Sigma, ONE of the following criteria is needed to qualify:

(a) Risk Management and Insurance majors must have completed RMI 2101 and any two upper-level 3000+ RMI courses while maintaining a major GPA of 3.5 or better in those three courses.

(b) Actuarial Science majors must have completed AS 1501, RMI 2101 and any one upper-level 2000+ AS course while maintaining a major GPA of 3.5 or better in those three courses.

(c) MS and MBA candidates are automatically eligible for Membership with Academic Distinction.

CONTACT OUR SECRETARY ALYSSA BREINER AT ALYSSA.BREINER@TEMPLE.EDU IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS REGARDING WHETHER YOU QUALIFY.

You only need to apply for Academic Distinction once in your collegiate career. Only select classes which qualify you for academic distinction. Do not select additional classes beyond the required amount.
