Sigma Chapter of Gamma Iota Sigma is proud to announce our 2011-2012 Charity of Choice, the Gift of Life Family House. Gift of Life Family House provides companionship, financial support and lodging for transplant patients and their family members.
Headquartered at the intersection of Third and Spring Garden Street, Gift of Life Program has been operating in the Delaware Valley region for over 35 years. Since its inception in 1974, the program has been facilitating organ and tissue donations for hundreds of thousands of patients. Gift of Life also informs community members of the benefits of organ donation. Currently, Gift of Life works with over 15 different transplant surgeons in the surrounding areas, and in 2009 enabled 1,114 transplants, a record number in the US.
Last academic year, Sigma Chapter pledged to raise $5,000 for Aid for Friends, a local charity providing home cooked meals for frail and elderly shut-ins. The chapter exceeded this goal and donated a total of $8,000 to Aid for Friends.
