Sigma Chapter Membership Requirements
Requirements To Join GIS Include:
Interest in Risk Management, Healthcare and/or Actuarial Science
Payment of the appropriate fee based on the type of membership.
Types of membership:
New Membership - $125
Renewal Membership with inclusion in Resume Book - $80

Renewal Membership Fees:
Annual Membership Fee covering one academic year - $55. This option is designed for those graduating in May 2011.

Membership With Academic Distinction:
The purpose of the GIS Membership with Academic Distinction designation is to recognize those students who have achieved academic excellence in either risk management and insurance or actuarial science studies. Members who meet the following requirements are eligible for Membership with Academic Distinction.
1. RMI majors must have completed RMI 2101 and any two 3000-level RMI courses while maintaining a major GPA of 3.5 or better in those three courses.
2. AS majors must have completed AS 1501, RMI 2101, and any one upper level 1000+ AS course while maintaining a major GPA of 3.5 or better in those three courses.
3. MS and MBA candidates are automatically eligible for Membership with Academic Distinction.
RESUME BOOKS
GIS sponsors annual resume books for both graduating seniors interested in full-time employment and underclassmen seeking internships. GIS distributes these recruiting tools to numerous firms with an emphasis on companies within our tri-state area. These companies use the resume book as a means to select candidates for internships and full time positions.
In order to be included in the resume book and interview through the Risk, Insurance and Healthcare Management Department, GIS members must complete the following steps in the prescribed order. These steps are:
Step 1. Payment of Dues
Step 2. Submission of an Online GIS Resume Worksheet
Step 3. Participation in an Interview Workshop Sponsored by GIS ( For graduating seniors, a Senior Interview Workshop)
Step 4. Completion of a Mock Interview
Step 5. Completion of an Etiquette Workshop
Step 6. Completion of a Resume Review with Anna Papalia
Step 7. Attendance at the “How to Prepare for a Career Reception Workshop"
Step 8. Take a professional portrait
