Mervat worked at both Radian, a mortgage insurance company and Styron, a Plastics/Latex manufacturing company this summer. While at Radian, Mervat spent her time accompanying her supervisor to meetings discussing various risks each department within the company faced. While some were financial risks, others focused closely on operational risks that could affect the company either severely or moderately. She communicated with brokers to facilitate the renewal of Radian’s P&C policy, attended a quarterly board meeting, and met with a risk analyst at Comcast to discuss the nature of Comcast’s risk exposures to gain an understanding of different approaches of risk mitigating practices.

While at Styron, she worked closely with the Director of RM to facilitate a premium financing schedule consisting of six lines of Business for 30 countries by using the last year’s premium allocations to compute and compose a budget for the next renewal period.  Mervat also spent one day, each, at two of the largest brokerage firms, Marsh and Aon, where I attended several presentations from various lines of business about the art of brokering.

Along with the exciting opportunities She was exposed to in the workplace, Mervat enjoyed at frequent lunches with several brokers.

In all, she enjoyed everything about her experience.  Working with different people from around the world and getting used to interacting comfortably with professionals in the business setting was a great opportunity.  Mervat would recommend this internship to other students.
