Sigma Chapter Intern Testimonials

Michael Cross
Major: Risk Management & Insurance
Graduation Date: May 2013
Company: IKEA and SAP
Location: Conshohocken, PA & Newtown Square, PA
Date: May 31st - August 11th
Michael worked at both IKEA and SAP this summer. While at IKEA, the majority of his tasks were administrative based, such as filing and faxing documents. However, Michael was exposed to numerous workers’ compensation and product liability cases/lawsuits that were being brought against the company. He found it very interesting to see how the Claims Administrators handled them.
While at SAP, Michael was taken to many meetings involving various subjects such as ergonomics and crisis management. Aside from shadowing my boss at meetings, he was given the responsibility of collecting and compiling all of the information that would be needed for the upcoming insurance policy renewals. This included the workers’ compensation, automobile, aviation, fiduciary liability, and pollution policy renewals. In addition to working on the insurance policy renewals, Michael also helped the head of SAP’s Trade Credit Insurance program with a project using Excel to match the proper client’s name with the associating account. Some benefits included free lunch everyday at SAP, and access to SAP’s full gym. Michael liked the companies’ atmospheres and the people he worked with the most. He disliked the work assigned to him at IKEA since it was mostly administrative, though he would recommend this internship to other students.
