Stephanie C Wolff

Major: Risk Management & Insurance
Graduation Date: May 2012
Company: Travelers
Location: Hartford, CT
Date: May 31st - August 12th

I interned at Travelers from May 31, to August 12. I was not provided time off besides the weekend. Even though the office was in Hartford, Ct, it was really great and easy for me to adapt.

I interned in the Product Pricing Development Program. I worked on the Eastern Mountain State Team (Pennsylvania, Delaware, and West Virginia) in personal lines. The entire team was super welcoming and I always felt comfortable asking questions. I learned a lot about Excel; most of my projects required Excel knowledge. I also used Outlook all of the time.

Yes, my classes did prepare me for my internship. My team worked in personal lines. My RMI classes gave me a great amount of knowledge about personal lines. Other interns did not have the same background and I think that definitely made me stand out in a positive way!

The interview process was really great. First round interviews were on campus and the two interviewers were really nice. Then for the second round I went to Hartford, CT and had an entire day of interviews and lunch with pricing analysts.

Yes, I did have a special project. Travelers closed their home and auto business in West Virginia many years ago. They were considering reopening the book. My assignment was to do in depth research and analysis about the market when we left the state compared to the current market. I also did a lot of research about the political and legislative environment. At the end of the summer I did a presentation to the entire state team about my findings. I also created a lost business report for the region that compared the profiles of lost, active, and new business for auto and home. This report will be updated quarterly which is exciting because I know I made an actual contribution to the organization.

I was provided free housing in this super awesome apartment building on the 20th floor. I really liked every aspect of this internship. The company culture was totally awesome and I felt so comfortable asking questions and everyone was awesome. I would recommend this internship to someone else.
