Sigma Chapter Intern Testimonials

Zachary Harris

Major: Risk Management & Insurance, Marketing
Graduation Date: May 2012
Company: Liberty Mutual Insurance Company
Location: Blue Bell, PA
Date: May 23rd– August 25th

Zachary worked for Liberty Mutual Insurance Company this summer in their Blue Bell, PA office.  His daily tasks included selling auto, home life, annuities and other insurance products to personal markets and Affinity groups using consultative techniques.  He was charged with identifying prospects using lead methods, counseling and advising prospects and policyholders on matters of protection and depth of coverage.

Employees worked in a team of 12 sales producers and 4 service agents. Work was assigned and deviated amongst the two summer interns. The environment was very friendly and independent in terms of being hands on and the expectations to perform daily and weekly projects.  The internship is very fast paced and required interns to learn very quickly and adapt to dynamic challenges within the field from day one.

Zachary’s interview process was very interesting in terms of the conversation during the interview. Interns must be extremely professional on multiple rounds both on and off campus. A formal interview is common. Also, later rounds include presentations and role-playing situations with multiple people from the firm.

If a student takes this job he/she must be prepared to work a minimum of 40 hours a week. You must work at least till 6pm most nights and not be afraid to cold call or get rejected. Failure will occur but coping with that and succeeding is much more important. You must be able to multi task for many people and not turn down work, ever. Being busy is critical to show you can handle a position possibly for full time.  Overall, Zachary would recommend this company to other students.
