Provide a General Description of the Internship. Include daily tasks completed, the company and its employees, and any other information.
Hartford Financial Products (HFP) represents The Hartford’s significant presence in the management liability, financial and professional insurance markets. Throughout the summer I was assigned different tasks by Product Directors in various lines of business. I was given the opportunity to complete projects in the areas of professional and management liability. The standard work hours were 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM, however most days I arrived early to show ambition and dedication.

If so, how did he/she help you during your internship?
N/A

Did you feel your RMI/AS classes better prepared you for the internship?
Yes. I always understood what was being discussed in meetings as well when projects were being assigned. My RMI classes kept me up to speed on the industry language being used around the office as well. Whereas a Finance student wouldn't understand many of the concepts, I was able to have thoughtful conversations about various topics.

Interviewing/Hiring Process Comments:
I applied through The Hartford's career site and also reached out to a recruiter located in their home office. A few days later I had a phone interview. At the end of the call the recruiter invited me to come up the following day for an on-site interview in New York City. I attended the interview on Friday and was offered the position the following Thursday.

Were you assigned any special projects? If so please describe.
I collaborated with the Product Directors of the Lawyers Professional Liability product. This was done by collecting and manipulating 3,202 claims in Microsoft Excel; the information was then organized into Microsoft OneNote to be reviewed by the Chief Underwriting Officer to develop better underwriting practices. Additionally, I worked with the Product Director of Commercial D&O to “tier” organizations into categories of risk based on a set of defined metrics.

What were the supplemental benefits besides the pay? (Internship Lunches, Housing, Sports Games, Happy Hours, etc.)
The Commercial D&O and Financial Services teams took the interns out to lunch several times.

Describe the company's internship program(atmosphere, work load, work, housing, outside work activities, etc.).
There was no formal training. I was given the opportunity to work on projects that were used to help improve products as well as develop better underwriting practices.

Was the internship what you expected after the interviewing/hiring process?
Yes

Were you provided time off besides the weekend?
N/A

If you had to relocate, describe the process of adapting to a new city.
New York City was a huge change, however, I felt right at home. The big city atmosphere is something I really enjoyed and thrived in.
