Provide a General Description of the Internship. Include daily tasks completed, the company and its employees, and any other information.
I assisted the business development team that helped the producers and claim representatives for the first half of the summer. The second half of the summer, I assisted and went to meetings with the Workers Compensation department. My main task during the internship was to make a online database of all the questions that are asked during the interview process producers go through when getting a new client. I also helped the claim department by organizing and reporting some claims through their claim management system. The hours are usually 8:30am to 5pm, but they were very flexible with me and let me come in a little earlier so I could leave earlier, there is also the option to work from home once you have more time with the company.

Did you have a mentor?

If so, how did he/she help you during your internship?

Did you feel your RMI/AS classes better prepared you for the internship?
Yes, because I was one of the few people that chose insurance as their major in college so I was able to help with more advanced stuff because i knew the topic and comprehended the subject.

Interviewing/Hiring Process Comments:
The interview process was very simple and quick because they announced their intern program very late during the spring. I interviewed with the HR person over the phone and two weeks later was called back for an interview with my future boss over the phone. I was given notice that I was accepted for the internship program a week after that. The questions were relatively general and they did not ask me any questions about the insurance industry.

Were you assigned any special projects? If so please describe.
I, along with 2 other interns, were assigned an intern project in which we had to interview different people at the office and find out about their roles. We then had to present in front of the CEO, CFO, our bosses, and the executive team and explain to them what the office does and the purpose for each department.

What were the supplemental benefits besides the pay? (Internship Lunches, Housing, Sports Games, Happy Hours, etc.)
We had happy hours in the office every month and were also given lunches every month. I had to pay for my own housing but they helped me look for somewhere to live close to the office.

Describe the company's internship program(atmosphere, work load, work, housing, outside work activities, etc.).
The atmosphere of the company is very relaxed, everyone can wear casual clothing if they are not meeting with a client that day, everyone is friendly at the company and they are very proud of that. The interns had a webinar series every week that we shared with the interns at the MMA- Mid Atlantic office about all the different sides of the company and the different departments. The workload was very light and I often had to ask for more work.

Was the internship what you expected after the interviewing/hiring process?

Were you provided time off besides the weekend?

If you had to relocate, describe the process of adapting to a new city.
I had to relocate to Minneapolis, MN for the summer. The culture in Minneapolis is very different than Philadelphia, everyone prides themselves for being nice. Apart from the culture, it was very easy to adjust. I found housing around the university of Minnesota and commuted to the office by bus.
