Provide a General Description of the Internship. Include daily tasks completed, the company and its employees, and any other information.
Typically speaking I spent more than 40 hours in the office a week. Overtime had to be approved by the hiring manager, but often projects required many post work hours. Usually I would arrive at8:00 am and work through 5:30-6:00 pm each day. Projects were varied and included many different projects such as data scrubbing, accrued benefit valuation, and pension plan assumption analysis.

Yes

If so, how did he/she help you during your internship?
The "buddy" system implemented at Willis Towers Watson was a friendly and social mentor program, which was very helpful in learning how to navigate the office and its events.

Did you feel your RMI/AS classes better prepared you for the internship?
I believe that some of my actuarial classes had relevance to my work but most of my preparation for the internship came through what I have learned in my involvement in Gamma Iota Sigma.

Interviewing/Hiring Process Comments:
I first met with Willis Towers Watson at the Actuarial Science Career Reception. From there, I had one on campus interview followed by a set of interviews in the Philadelphia office. After completing the on site interviews, an offer was sent to me via email about 2 weeks later.

Were you assigned any special projects? If so please describe.
The special project I was assigned was to analyze the actuarial equivalence factors of various pension plan assumptions from clients throughout the office. I then researched what ways the company could help its clients and expand its scope of work using my analysis. I was asked to present my finding to the senior consultants and management in my practice.

What were the supplemental benefits besides the pay? (Internship Lunches, Housing, Sports Games, Happy Hours, etc.)
Housing stipend was provided. There was a biweekly lunch with senior members of the practice. Our client teams also attended happy hours and went bowling after work hours.

Describe the company's internship program(atmosphere, work load, work, housing, outside work activities, etc.).
The internship program was mostly based on joining client teams in the office in order to help them accomplish a specific project. In this way the work was very realistic and applicable and always remained new and interesting. Some tasks were specifically structured within the internship program but for the most part the work was ad hock. The interns did have the opportunity to attend seminars on relevant work topics and present topics which we researched to senior members of the practice.
