Lockton Companies
New York City NY, USA

Provide a General Description of the Internship. Include daily tasks completed, the company and its employees, and any other information.
As a Summer Associate at Lockton Companies in their New York Office, I learned about all of their different product lines through a ten week rotational program. We spent a week in different lines such as International, Property, Casualty, Legal and Financial Services, Employee Benefits, Real Estate, Construction, and more. I worked five days a week from 9am to 5pm.

Did you have a mentor?

If so, how did he/she help you during your internship?
I did not utilize my mentor as much as I should have. He let me sit in on some phone calls and meetings.

Did you feel your RMI/AS classes better prepared you for the internship?
As the only Risk Management student interning with the company, I definitely felt much more prepared and knowledgable about the industry and how the business worked.

Interviewing/Hiring Process Comments:
I interviewed with Lockton at the Spring internship reception and then had a phone interview with the hiring manager at the New York office a week later.

Were you assigned any special projects? If so please describe.
In addition to the work we were assigned in each of the product lines, the interns and I worked on a group project throughout the summer which we ultimately presented to the board of directors. We decided to create and underwriting system for cyber risks and then used it to create a cyber bond which transfers a company's cyber risk to the capital market.

What were the supplemental benefits besides the pay? (Internship Lunches, Housing, Sports Games, Happy Hours, etc.)
Lunches were provided on occasion. We were also able to attend special offsite events like State of the Companies.

Describe the company's internship program(atmosphere, work load, work, housing, outside work activities, etc.).
The internship was a lot of learning in a classroom style setting but they plan on changing it in the future to accommodate for Risk Management and Actuarial Science students. Instead of spending as much time in the classroom learning about insurance and the different product lines, Risk and Actuarial students will be assigned more tasks to complete.

Was the internship what you expected after the interviewing/hiring process?

Were you provided time off besides the weekend?
I was able to take off any days that I needed to.

If you had to relocate, describe the process of adapting to a new city.
I spent the summer in New York City. It was very easy to learn the subway system by using different apps such as CityMapper.
