Provide a General Description of the Internship. Include daily tasks completed, the company and its employees, and any other information.
At Trion, each day I would get assignments from a variety of underwriters in the consulting division. Daily tasks included using Trion's Underwriting Model, performing demographic and cost/utilization analyses, running monthly premium/claims reports and updating various templates with data.

Did you have a mentor?

If so, how did he/she help you during your internship?
My mentor taught me how to use the various underwriting tools required in the consulting division. She also managed my work flow, and helped me coordinate assignments with other people on the team. She answered all of my questions and had an open door policy at all times. She helped me network with senior underwriters and account managers.

Did you feel your RMI/AS classes better prepared you for the internship?
The knowledge I had obtained from RMI 3501 was extremely relevant in my internship. I had a foundation knowledge of underwriting, the Affordable Care Act, and health/welfare benefits. My internship really put these topics in context within the employee benefits industry.

Interviewing/Hiring Process Comments:
I interned at Trion during the summer of 2015, so I did not have to get reinterviewed for the summer of 2016. When I initially interviewed in 2015, I had one on campus interview following the reception and got an offer about a week later.

Were you assigned any special projects? If so please describe.
I completed a dental marketing from start to finish, prepared all items for a pre-renewal strategy meeting, and presented a demographic analysis to a client during the meeting.

What were the supplemental benefits besides the pay? (Internship Lunches, Housing, Sports Games, Happy Hours, etc.)
We were able to attend happy hours, Phillies games, and several lunch and learns. Every Wednesday, we had a lunch in learn with people from a variety of areas within Trion. Additionally, we had focused lunch and learns with professionals who taught us about business etiquette, presentation skills, and strategic career management.

Describe the company's internship program(atmosphere, work load, work, housing, outside work activities, etc.).
The company's internship program is structured; interns are paired with mentors/managers, are expected to attend the intern lunch and learns, participate in monthly check ins with HR, and give a final presentation on a topic of choice. There was no formal training within the underwriting department. Interns were given assignments with a basic set of instructions and were expected to attempt to complete the assignment on time. If we had questions about an assignment, our mentors were always willing to help.

Was the internship what you expected after the interviewing/hiring process?

Were you provided time off besides the weekend?
I was able to take days off for vacation when I requested ahead of time.

If you had to relocate, describe the process of adapting to a new city.
