The Spencer Foundation, stimulates, promotes and encourages promising undergraduates and graduates of risk management disciple in fulfilling their educational goals by providing scholarship awards and educational grants. Established in 1979 to honor the late Robert S. Spencer, the foundation is administered by its board of directors and affiliated with the Risk and Insurance Management Society Inc. (RIMS) in New York. Sigma Chapter is proud to announce that fourteen of our students have been awarded several scholarships from the Spencer Educational Foundation. The scholarship recipients are: |

Insurance Society of Philadelphia 100th Anniversary Scholarship |

The Insurance Society of Philadelphia’s 100th Anniversary Scholarship Fund provides financial benefit to outstanding risk and insurance students to support their educational endeavors. The Fund was created to honor the 100th Anniversary of the Insurance Society, which was celebrated in 2001. Scholarships are awarded annually to students in the Delaware Valley who are engaged in the study of Risk Management, Insurance, and related studies and who have demonstrated a commitment to their study by attaining excellent academic credentials. The scholarships are publicly announced and distributed at the Insurance Society’s Awards Banquet in June each year.The scholarship recipients are: |

The Foundation for Agency Management Excellence (FAME), the charitable foundation of The Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers established a new scholarship gift from Assurex Global in memory of Robert P. Ashlock, a former president of 20 years and longtime industry leader. An exclusive partnership of the top independent insurance and risk management brokers worldwide, Assurex pledged a $125,000 gift over the next five years to fund the “Robert P. Ashlock” memorial scholarship, which will be granted annually at $5,000 to a risk management student at one of the nine current FAME scholarship universities. The addition of the Assurex/Ashlock scholarship brings the total number of $5,000 FAME scholarships to 15 per school, per year. |

James P. Turner Memorial Scholarship |

The James P. Turner Memorial Scholarship was established in 2011 at Temple University. The scholarship is in memory of James P. Turner who graduated from the Actuarial Science Program in 1986 and had a successful career as an actuary at Milliman and Robertson for thirteen years and at Deloitte and Touche for three years. He was the Chief Actuary at Kaiser Permanente for five years. |

The Foundation for Agency Management Excellence (FAME), the charitable foundation of The Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers. To realize its long-term goal of developing future industry leaders, FAME launched a scholarship program for the 2006-2007 academic year by selecting the first four college students to receive $5,000 scholarships to pursue careers in risk management and insurance. The new initiative by FAME is aimed at encouraging more young people to consider the field of risk management and insurance as a profession. |

Derek Hughes/NAPSLO Educational Foundation Scholarships |

In 1998, the Derek Hughes/NAPSLO Educational Foundation established the scholarship program for students pursuing an insurance or business related program of study. The purpose of the scholarship program is to further the study of insurance and encourage, support, and reward those exceptional students who have an interest in an insurance career. |
