Vice Chairman/Chief Financial Officer




Jay S. Benet has been the Chief Financial Officer of the Travelers Companies, Inc. since January 2002, having also been named Vice Chairman in August 2005. Travelers is one of the 30 companies that comprise the Dow Jones Industrial Average and is one of the largest and most profitable property casualty insurers in the U.S. In 2013, the company reported revenue in excess of $26 billion and net income of approximately $3.7 billion and employs approximately 30,000 people.

Prior to joining Travelers, Mr. Benet was the worldwide head of financial planning, analysis and reporting for Citigroup from March 2001 until January 2002, and Chief Financial Officer for Citigroup’s global consumer business in Europe, the Middle East and Africa from April 2000 to March 2001. Prior to that, he spent ten years in various executive positions with Travelers Life & Annuity, a subsidiary of Citigroup at the time, including its Chief Financial Officer as well as its Executive Vice President of Group Annuity. Prior to joining Travelers Life & Annuity, Mr. Benet was a partner of Coopers & Lybrand (now PricewaterhouseCoopers).

Mr. Benet received a master’s degree in business administration from the Simon School of Business, where he specialized in finance and accounting and from which he received a distinguished alumni award, and a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Binghamton University, from which he also received a distinguished alumni award. He has also been the recipient of Institutional Investor’s Best CFO Award for Insurance on several occasions.

He and his wife, Jeanne, reside in West Hartford, Connecticut and have three children and five grandchildren.
