Senior Consultant and Leader, Client Solutions Group, North American Retirement

Michael (Mike) Archer is the leader of the Client Solutions Group for Towers Watson’s North American retirement practice. Mike has 35 years of experience in actuarial consulting services, the last 25 with Towers Watson. He was the recipient of the 2014 Bonnie Averbach Distinguished Alumni Award in Actuarial Science.

Mike’s background is primarily in retirement and other benefit consulting including actuarial valuations, retirement risk management, asset/liability studies, retirement and benefit strategy, executive retirement benefits, retiree medical benefit design, acquisitions and divestitures, merger integration and union negotiations. He has provided actuarial consulting services to several of Towers Watson’s largest clients. Mike has been at the forefront of developments in the pension liability transfer space, including large scale lump sum programs to retired and terminated vested participants. He is often asked to participate as a guest consultant on projects with Towers Watson’s largest U.S. clients.

Mike earned a B.B.A. degree with highest honors in Actuarial Science from Temple University. He is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and an Enrolled Actuary. He has been published in a book on ERISA law, is frequently quoted in the media, and has lectured on actuarial matters in various forums. He recently served a three year term on the Society of Actuaries Pension Section Council.

He has previously served as the leader of Intellectual Capital Development for Towers Watson’s North American Retirement Practice, Chief Actuary of Towers Perrin prior to its merger with Towers Watson, Senior Actuary of the Towers Perrin Philadelphia and New York offices and Retirement Practice leader of the Towers Perrin’s Parsippany office.
